HMB is a naturally occurring compound produced when your body metabolizes leucine — an essential amino acid found in protein-rich foods. But here's the key: you can't eat enough protein to produce a meaningful amount of HMB. Even a very high-protein diet yields only about 0.2–0.4g of HMB per day. Research consistently shows that 3g per day is where the muscle-protective benefits appear.
